Aerowatch Les Grandes Classiques Chrono Moon Phase – a 199-piece valentine to the Valjoux

Aerowatch Les Grandes Classiques Chrono Moon Phase - a 199-piece valentine to the Valjoux

Aerowatch expands its Les Grandes Classiques Chrono Moon Phase with a quietly confident limited edition of 199 pieces, reference A 69989 AA05. It is a familiar Swiss story told with care: a stainless steel chronograph, a moon peeking at 3 o’clock, and the steady heartbeat of a Valjoux automatic beneath a curved sapphire.

The 44 mm case wears its size with restraint. An engraved serial at 9 o’clock tips the hat to collectability, while a domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal keeps reflections in check. Water resistance is 50 meters – sensible for a daily companion rather than a diver in disguise.

The anthracite sunray dial shows thoughtful layering. A bevelled date ring adds depth, Arabic numerals and subdials read cleanly against the dark ground, and luminescent hands mind the dusk. Color is used sparingly: a red chronograph seconds hand for urgency, a wandering crescent moon for poetry.

Inside, the legendary Valjoux automatic chronograph movement is finished with circular graining, rhodium plating, blued screws, and Côtes de Genève. It beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour with 25 jewels. Aerowatch has sensibly modified it so both moon phase and date are set via the crown – a small grace that spares the case from pushers and the owner from fumbling.

The sapphire caseback with screws offers a clear view of the mechanism at work. It is not theatrics, simply Swiss craft shown plainly. The package closes with an anthracite embossed leather strap, neat topstitching, and a steel folding clasp – practical, tidy, and comfortable.

Functions cover hours, minutes, running seconds, chronograph, date, and moon phase at 3. The watch is available exclusively at Aerowatch points of sale. Pricing: CHF 3’280Euro 4’200USD 4,800.

In an era fond of noise, this edition whispers. It values legibility, honest finishing, and a movement with miles in its legs. Not flashy, not fragile – just well judged, and likely to be worn.
