Speake Marin unveils the Tourbillon Royal Blue, a five-piece edition that dresses the Openworked architecture in an intense Royal Blue and houses it in a 42 mm 5N red-gold Piccadilly case. It is poised rather than loud – the kind of blue that behaves under a cuff yet rewards a longer look.
The dial is conceived as layered structure, fully open to the mechanics. Two anchors set the scene: a 60-second flying tourbillon at 1:30 crowned by the signature Topping Tool bridge in 4N, and a power-reserve display at 7:30 with a discreet red accent. The upper plate receives a Royal Blue PVD finish with straight graining, microblasted recesses, satin-brushed planes, opaline bevels and diamond-cut edges. A circular-grained Royal Blue flange with light-grey Super-LumiNova hour markers frames the view, while 4N PVD hands, lacquered light grey with blue lume, float clearly above the works.
Inside beats the automatic manufacture calibre SMA05 with a fully integrated tungsten micro-rotor, 3 Hz frequency and a minimum 72-hour power reserve. It counts 290 components and 33 jewels, with bridges in anthracite-grey rhodium and a central bridge in 4N-tone PVD. The barrel carries laser engravings that continue as striped decoration onto the oscillating weight – small integrity checks for those who care about coherence.
The Piccadilly case – redesigned in 2017 to softer, more sculptural lines – keeps the architecture legible. A domed sapphire with anti-reflective treatment covers the front, a sapphire back completes the transparency, and the flared, fluted 5N crown is set with a blue sapphire. Dimensions are measured rather than bulky: 42 mm in diameter, 12.35 mm in thickness, water resistance to 3 ATM. The caseback is engraved Limited Edition of 5.
Royal Blue is the thread that ties it all together – dial, flange and selected components – set against warm 5N gold and anthracite rhodium. The strap follows suit: Royal Blue ostrich leather, hand-stitched with gold-coloured thread, light-brown calf lining, and a 5N red-gold pin buckle. Reference 424211010 carries a recommended price of CHF 95,000 before taxes.
