Frederique Constant presents the Classics Moneta Solarmetre, a quietly ambitious dress watch built around the new solar-powered FC-120 caliber developed with La Joux-Perret. It marries a 39 mm case to a movement that can restart after 10 seconds of light and store up to 300 days of energy when darkness lingers.
The case is notably slim at 8.52 mm, which keeps the silhouette elegant rather than eco-sloganeering. The Solarmetre system remains invisible on the wrist, so you get classic proportions without the usual solar dial compromises.
Three dial tones set the mood. Ice Blue arrives with two interchangeable straps – navy leather and Milanese mesh – and claims up to 10 months of autonomy in total darkness. Cloud White is grained, paired with a brown leather strap and a fluted flange. Burgundy leans bold, supplied with black leather and a Milanese mesh option.
Daily practicality is bluntly sensible. One minute of light yields a full day of autonomy. If the watch is asleep, a brief 10-second charge wakes it. No drama, just photons doing honest work.
Purists may miss a mechanical heartbeat, yet intention matters. Here, the aim is longevity and quiet utility wrapped in traditional attire. The partnership with La Joux-Perret suggests considered engineering rather than novelty for its own sake.
In short, the Moneta Solarmetre is a classic suit with a modern lining. It looks the part, keeps time without fuss, and lets the sun pick up the tab.
