Czapek & Cie has come home. The new flagship at Quai des Bergues 27 opens where François Czapek first turned insurgent grit into Genevan mastery. Timed to Geneva Watch Days, the Maison marks the moment with two pieces tied to place and friendship – the Quai des Bergues “Midnight in Geneva” in a new 40.5 mm steel case, and the Place Vendôme Complicité Glacier Blue, a 10-piece platinum edition shaped by CEO Xavier de Roquemaurel and Bernhard Lederer.
The boutique is a deliberate counterpoint to velvet-rope retail. Raw stone walls meet American walnut and midnight blue Alcantara. No counter, just shared tables and open displays – a calm room for conversation rather than transaction. Oskar Zięta’s mirror-polished “Rondo” works reflect visitors back at themselves, a neat reminder that the rarest component is still the wearer.
The “Midnight in Geneva” returns as a 40.5 mm stainless steel edition, limited to 18 pieces. Its deep blue aventurine dial shimmers like the lake at dusk. The construction is exacting: instead of recessing sub-dials into the glass, the aventurine is cut through entirely and the small seconds and power-reserve displays are mounted on the 0.4 mm base plate beneath. The case keeps the familiar curves, refined case-side recesses, and a sapphire back for the proprietary hand-wound Calibre SXH1 with seven-day reserve. A small watchmaker’s wink – 18 pieces for Rue de la Corraterie 18 – and immediate availability at the flagship and select retailers.
The Place Vendôme Complicité Glacier Blue is friendship made mechanical. In Pt 950 and limited to 10, it stages two independent balance wheels beating in opposite directions, a differential at 12 o’clock averaging their rates, and central seconds – all dial side. The light blue PVD grainé main plate cools the scene, with rhodium-plated faceted indexes and partially skeletonised sword hands. The manually wound Calibre 8 counts 293 parts and a 72-hour reserve, displayed between the balances. Each variable-inertia balance carries four screws and four weights, with a Breguet terminal curve tuned so the two oscillators remain in quiet dialogue. Two sapphire bridges, six rubies in gold chatons, and on the reverse 18 inward angles with hand-bevels honor the établissage that Lederer helped enable.
History here is not a backdrop but a tool. By returning to the quay, Czapek shows how continuity can guide invention – less noise, more intent. The watches do the talking. The boutique invites the listening.
