URWERK’s UR-150 Golden Scorpion sets its radical display in 2N yellow gold, trading armour for sculpture while keeping the brand’s mechanics in full view. The queen of metals reframes the form – light pulls at curves, hard breaks catch the eye – so the case reads denser, yet more fluid. Heritage metal, contemporary stance.
The display remains pure URWERK. Three hour satellites orbit on a central flying carousel. A retrograde minute hand sweeps a 240-degree arc, then snaps back in a hundredth of a second. In gold, that choreography gains contrast – radiance above, depth below – a quiet theatre of motion.
Inside beats the automatic UR-50.01 calibre, designed to synchronise satellite progression with the lightning return of the retrograde minutes. A cam-and-rack system with a speed regulator takes the place of a conventional Maltese cross, keeping the whole display under constant mechanical tension. The movement runs at 4 Hz, uses 38 jewels, and offers a 43-hour power reserve. Finishing is purposeful: sandblasted and microbead-blasted brass elements with 3N gold PVD, aluminium components finely satin-finished, Grade 5 titanium screw heads flat-polished, and hand-painted Super-LumiNova where you need it.
The case pairs a sandblasted, microbead-blasted and satin-finished 2N yellow gold middle with a black PVD Grade 5 titanium back. Dimensions are 42.50 mm wide, 51.00 mm long, and 14.80 mm thick. A domed sapphire crystal caps the architecture, water resistance is 5 ATM with a screw-down crown, and the strap is an adjustable high-performance hybrid rubber with folding clasp. The massive crown is gold, of course.
The satellite hours and retrograde minutes are supported by an aluminium hand and brass flying carousel, both finished to match the industrial clarity of the concept. Wheels manufactured using LIGA technology, a brass rotor with circular graining and gold PVD, and regulation by a double turbine system round out the spec list. It is spectacle with discipline – the kind that rewards a second look, then a third.
Edition size is 25 pieces, priced at CHF 105,000 before taxes. The message is clear: gold here is not nostalgia, it is contrast. Call it a scorpion’s sting – precise, fast, and impossible to miss.
