U-BOAT refines its signature silhouette with the Classico U-46, a slightly downsized 46 mm take on Italo Fontana’s long-running design. The character stays muscular, the proportions breathe a little easier. Your wrist will notice the millimetre, your eyes will not.
The case is hand-finished AISI 316L stainless steel with a satin brush, anchored by the brand’s left-side crown and protective device. A small plate on the flank bears the serial number, a neat industrial touch that suits the tool-first aesthetic.
Black or beige dials keep the collection’s essential graphic language. The three-layer construction adds depth without noise, while Super-LumiNova matches the dial tone in beige or black. Beneath an anti-reflective sapphire crystal sit a clean date and a discreet 24-hour indicator.
Inside, the automatic Sellita SW200, customized to U-BOAT specifications, handles hours, minutes, seconds, the 24-hour display, and the date. It is a sensible choice for a watch that prefers honest function over theatrics.
Flip it over and a screw-down caseback secures 100 m of water resistance. A smoked-effect mineral crystal offers a moody peek at the movement, consistent with the watch’s utilitarian mood rather than exhibitionism.
The calfskin strap is handcrafted in Tuscany, laser-worked and naturally aged, which fits the brief: purposeful, lived-in, ready to wear. The Classico U-46 does not reinvent itself to feel current. It simply tightens the lines, keeps the voice, and lets the design do the talking.
