Anyone who has landed in a new city at 11 pm knows the feeling. Your body says it’s breakfast, your phone says it’s bedtime, and your watch should be the one thing that makes sense. NOMOS Glashütte has just released a worldtimer built for exactly that moment: the Club Sport neomatik Worldtimer dark, reference 793.
Dark mode for your wrist
The big change is the dial. It is enamel black, with a high gloss finish. The hour numerals, indexes, hands, city ring and home time subdial are all in off-white, so everything stands out clearly. Think of it as dark mode on your phone, only made of enamel and with no battery warning.
More glow than ever
Here is the real news. In earlier Club Worldtimer models, only the hour markers and hands had Superluminova, the luminous material that glows in the dark. Now the city ring and the home time indicator glow blue too. NOMOS says these parts are precisely cast and carry a high concentration of pigments, which gives an even and intense afterglow. In practice, all 24 time zones stay easy to read when the lights go out. No more squinting at tiny city codes in a dark taxi.
How it works
The idea is simple. The main dial shows your local time. The 24-hour subdial at 3 o’clock shows home time, with day and night marked by color. When you land somewhere new, one click of the pusher changes the local time. Your home time keeps running, so you always know if it’s too late to call your mother.
Inside is the in-house automatic caliber DUW 3202. It has 37 jewels, a power reserve of up to 42 hours and the NOMOS swing system with a blue balance spring. It is adjusted in six positions, and the usual Glashütte details are all there: ribbing, perlage and blued screws. On the rotor, a small gold globe is a nice nod to the world time function. You can see it all through the sapphire crystal back.
Slim and tough
A worldtimer is a complicated thing, so you would expect a chunky watch. Not here. The stainless steel case is 40.0 mm wide and only 9.9 mm high, which NOMOS calls one of the slimmest worldtimers available. It is water resistant to 10 atm, so swimming is fine. The screw-down crown also has a red warning ring that shows when it is not fully closed. It is a small but clever touch that could save your watch from a very sad swimming trip.
The watch comes on the Club Sport steel bracelet with quick-change spring bars and a 20 mm lug width.
Family and pedigree
This is the fourth version of the Worldtimer in the NOMOS core collection. The others are blue, silver and a white silver-plated version. The silver one has already won the iF Design Award and the Red Dot Award, so the new black sibling has a lot to live up to.
I like this watch for a simple reason. It does not try to be louder than the others. It just goes quiet and dark, and then glows at the right moment. Some people are like that too.
