H. Moser & Cie. adds a jolt of saturated summer to its most versatile line with the Pioneer Centre Seconds Sun Berry. Beneath the Berry Purple fumé dial and electric yellow accents sits a capable steel sports watch with real mechanical footing, not just a loud outfit.
The 40 mm case in solid steel keeps proportions sensible. Height is 10.4 mm without the crystal and 12.0 mm with it, helped by a domed sapphire. A screw-in crown and 12 ATM rating make it an unpretentious companion for water and weather. The case-back is sapphire too, because Moser knows when to show its work.
The dial is classic Moser drama: a sunburst Berry Purple gradient, no logo and no indices in this Concept guise. Leaf-shaped hands and the inner flange glow in yellow Super-LumiNova, giving high legibility when light falls or fails. Yellow on purple is not shy, but here it is thoughtfully balanced.
Power comes from the HMC 201 automatic calibre. It beats at 21,600 vph, holds a minimum 3-day reserve, and stops the seconds for precise setting. Winding is bi-directional via a pawl system with an engraved oscillating weight. The finishing is honest and tidy: anthracite tone with Moser double stripes, partially skeletonised bridges, and the brand’s Original Straumann hairspring at the heart.
Dimensions of the movement are classical workshop language rather than marketing: 32.0 mm in diameter, 5.5 mm thick, with 27 jewels. You see just enough through the back to understand the construction without feeling it tries to be a skeleton watch by accident.
On the wrist, a vivid yellow rubber strap locks in the theme and the role. This is the liveliest take on the Pioneer yet, but the substance is familiar: robust casework, clean architecture, and a dial that lets colour do the speaking while the mechanics keep their poise.
Verdict: a legitimate tool-first Pioneer with a playful palette. The attitude is bright, the intentions are sound. Summer, yes. Serious, also yes.
