Trilobe pours its latest idea without spilling into gimmickry. Château Trente-Deux dresses the Paris-made Trente-Deux in burgundy and pairs the first 100 pieces with a French wine selected by the Maison. After that opening flight, it joins the regular collection. The conceit is vinous, the watchmaking is serious.
The terroir here is literal. Design, manufacture, decoration, and assembly take place in Trilobe’s Paris atelier, a short walk from the old arcades of Le Roy, Berthoud, and Lepaute. The X-Nihilo movement is the house’s own – a patient project tested for over 400 hours before it leaves the bench.
The dial is a deep red matched to the hue of a great vintage. The main disc is matte sunburst, the hour and minute rings are grained, and the seconds wheel mixes azurage with Clou de Paris guilloché. Time is read the Trilobe way: hours, minutes, and seconds on rotating rings with fixed indicators. The display concept sits on a single plane and is protected by a patent.
The steel case shows restraint with bite. Seven elements, each finished in turn: polished, satin-brushed, and micro-blasted surfaces, a fluted bezel with polished edges and blasted flutes, and a crisp lug line. Dimensions are modern but mannerly – 39.5 mm in diameter, 10.15 mm thick, and 46.18 mm lug to lug. Water resistance is 5 bar.
Inside, the automatic X-Nihilo keeps a steady cadence at 28,800 vph with a 42-hour reserve. It counts 34 jewels and 218 components, measures 35.2 mm by 7 mm, and winds by oscillating weight. The sapphire crystal carries multilayer ARDUR anti-reflective treatment, echoed on the display back. If you must wait for anything, let it be the seconds ring catching the light.
The watch is delivered on an integrated steel bracelet with a double-deployant buckle. A rubber strap is available separately. The first 100 pieces add a bottle from the Maison’s cellar selection and receive a caseback engraving specific to this edition.
Trente-Deux was a workshop code name before it became an address worth remembering. Château Trente-Deux keeps that purpose intact – French craft first, metaphor second. The wine is a toast. The watch is the work.
