Furlan Marri Meteorite Octa - a mechaquartz chronograph in Muonionalusta

Furlan Marri introduces the Meteorite Octa, a 38 mm mechaquartz chronograph with a Muonionalusta dial, offered by pre-order only from April 10 to 20, 2026, at 720 CHF. It will not be reproduced. The proposition is simple and disciplined – refined casework, a tactile chronograph feel, and a dial that carries four and a half billion years of memory.

The line traces its form language to François Borgel and the Taubert era that followed – compact cases, elegant pushers, and practical sealing solutions. That heritage explains the choice of a slim hybrid caliber to keep proportions truthful rather than bloated for effect.

Inside ticks the Seiko VK64 mechaquartz, a quartz base with a mechanical chronograph module. You get an instant reset, a smooth central seconds sweep, and soft pusher engagement, with accuracy quoted at ± 20 seconds per month. The scale is a pulsometer base 15 – a nod to clinics and coat pockets of another time, still useful if you prefer wrists to apps.

The dial is cut from the Muonionalusta iron meteorite, a fine octahedrite whose Widmanstätten patterns are the crystal lattice laid bare, not a surface trick. Each slice is singular. Here it is built as a sandwich dial with applied polished Roman numerals, double printed indications, a domed outer ring, and curved hands for gentle light play.

The 316L steel case measures 38 mm by 46 mm lug to lug and 12 mm thick with sapphire. Finishing is unusually thorough at this level – perlage in the recesses, mirror polish, satin brushing, and deep embossing, with a decagonal screw-down back carrying deep engravings. Water resistance is 5 ATM.

Legibility is helped by the balanced registers for 60 minutes and 24 hours, while the layout leaves enough meteorite visible to justify the name. It feels considered rather than crowded – the kind of restraint that ages well.

Two quick-release straps are included: black textured leather and white soft leather, sourced from Italian or French tanneries. A small detail, but one that supports the watch’s light-on-its-feet character.

For a brand founded in 2021 by Andrea Furlan and Hamad Al Marri, and recognized early at the GPHG, the Meteorite Octa reads as continuity rather than stunt. Craft first, storytelling as context, and a clear refusal to let thickness creep win the day.
