Fifteen years after the first Legacy Machine set MB&F on a round-cased, classically minded course, LM1 returns as LM1 EVO – smaller, tougher, and still gloriously two-time.
The architecture remains unmistakable. Two separate dials show fully independent hours and minutes, so half-hour and 45-minute offsets are no problem. The right-hand time is set and the movement wound by the crown at 4 o’clock; the left-hand time is set by the crown at 8. Simple on the dial, more elaborate beneath – as it should be.
At centre stage floats the 14 mm balance, beating at 2.5 Hz (18,000 vph). LM1 EVO upgrades the regulating heart with a Straumann double hairspring, mounted in opposition to reduce gravity effects and lateral friction. A newly shaped titanium bridge lifts the mechanism into view – kinetic sculpture with a purpose.
Power reserve grows to 60 hours and moves to an inclined display at 6 o’clock, replacing the original’s vertical pointer. The calibre remains manually wound, preserving the small daily ritual that keeps owner and mechanism politely acquainted.
The EVO case shifts from 44 mm to 42 mm and brings real-life protections: 80 m water resistance, screw-down crowns, and the FlexRing shock absorber between case and movement. No conventional bezel and a domed sapphire keep the stage open, with Super-LumiNova on displays for low light. Interchangeable integrated rubber straps – at case and clasp – make swaps quick rather than ceremonial.
Finishing stays firmly in the Legacy tradition: 338 components, 25 jewels, gold chatons with polished countersinks, broad Geneva waves, hand-applied anglage with sharp internal angles, and hand engraving. The movement turns classical codes outward so the wearer, not the watchmaker alone, enjoys the view.
Two expressions debut. A titanium edition pairs a bright, silver-toned dial-side architecture with black displays and blue hands over a rhodium-plated plate. A 5N+ rose gold edition, limited to 33 pieces, sets black displays against a deep green surface, with rose-gold-toned accents echoing the warm case.
LM1 EVO does not rewrite the idea that made LM1 special. It refines it for the world outside the watch box – quieter, stronger, and more willing to be worn hard without losing its manners.
