Kerbedanz 65’27’’ - a quiet collision of math, memory, and a single hand

Kerbedanz marks its 15th anniversary with the 65’27’’ collection, a meditative object that replaces the usual duet of hands with a single minute hand conversing with an hour disc set with a diamond. Their perfect overlap occurs every 65 minutes and 27 seconds, when the diamond sits beneath the minute hand and is optically magnified – a brief alignment that feels less like a function and more like a ritual.

The cadence is disarmingly simple: the overlap recurs 11 times per full hour-disc rotation. Twelve divided by eleven yields 1.090909… hours, which is 65.4545 minutes, or 65 minutes and 27.27 seconds. It is horology’s favorite kind of poetry – precise, repeatable, and entirely human in its effect.

That humanity is not accidental. Chief Design Officer and co-founder Aram Petrosyan was born on September 27, 1965 – a neat echo of 65 and 27 that the Maison reads as a signature hidden in plain sight. The watch becomes a small biography ticking on the wrist.

The dial, produced with Kari Voutilainen’s Comblémine, uses refined colimaçonnage to send light into slow spirals. It suits the display’s contemplative tempo. The 38 mm case keeps discretion, while the extra-thin KRB10 movement underscores the idea of mechanical restraint. Through the sapphire back, a systemic oscillating mass mirrors the dial tones, tying front to back with quiet symmetry.

Kerbedanz offers tightly limited runs keyed to the same numerology. Editions and prices (excl. tax): 18k 4N rose gold with “Celestial Blue” dial – 65 piecesCHF 40,000. Palladium 950 with “Arctic Blue” dial – 27 piecesCHF 46,000. Grade 5 titanium with “Jet Black” dial – 65 piecesCHF 30,000. Grade 5 titanium with “Celadon Green” dial – 9 piecesCHF 30,000. 18k 4N rose gold with diamond-set bezel and lugs (white and cognac brilliant-cut) – 27 piecesCHF 55,000.

What matters here is intention. The 65’27’’ does not chase complication count; it chases meaning. One hand, one disc, one diamond – and a rhythm that invites you to wait for a moment rather than grab it. In a market crowded with louder statements, this is a whisper with good timing.
