HYT opens its Bespoke Atelier to the Conical Tourbillon, inviting collectors to shape the first tourbillon in the Maison’s history around their own eye and hand. It is not customization as garnish, but a considered co-creation where materials, colors, finishes and even mechanical accents are tuned without diluting the watch’s core idea – fluidic time and visible mechanics in three dimensions.
At the heart sits the manual-wind calibre 701-TC, developed with Éric Coudray and built from 533 components, 159 of them devoted to the tourbillon cage. The balance and hairspring are inclined at 30 degrees, with the escape wheel at 15 degrees and the pallet fork at 23 degrees. The cage turns once every 30 seconds, while three adjacent spheres orbit at four, five and six revolutions per minute, giving the dial a quiet, kinetic pulse.
HYT’s signature retrograde hour returns through two immiscible fluids advancing in a glass capillary, their boundary drawing a physical line between past and imminent. The fluidic module, developed and manufactured by Preciflex SA, is the brand’s engine room and identity. Here it plays against an open architecture that leaves little to hide and much to appreciate.
The palette for the Bespoke Atelier is broad. Cases in 5N rose gold, titanium or DLC-coated titanium can be further treated. The dial invites guilloché, mother-of-pearl, textured patterns, hard stones such as agate, malachite or lapis lazuli, plus gem-setting, engraving or hand-painting. Personalization can reach into the visible mechanics, with finishes and colors applied to selected components, the tourbillon details, balance, counterweight, Super-LumiNova and crown. The three moving spheres may be crafted in sapphire, glass, diamond or colored stone, while the fluid itself sets the chromatic tone by day and, with lume, by night.
Every choice touches another. Light on stone affects the reading of the fluid line. Surface treatment shifts the depth of the mechanism. The Atelier guides the dialogue so ideas keep their poetry while respecting the watch’s structure and strength. It is a patient process, closer to tailoring than trend chasing, and it yields a piece that belongs wholly to its future owner.
HYT has occupied this fluidic territory since 2012, drawing on an ancient clepsydra idea with modern engineering. The Conical Tourbillon Bespoke feels like the natural continuation of that path – a stage where the technology remains the protagonist, and the collector, discreetly, becomes co-author.
