Direnzo DRZ 08 Cosmonaire – an elliptical GMT with Space Age poise

Direnzo DRZ 08 Cosmonaire an elliptical GMT with Space Age poise

Direnzo unveils its first GMT, the DRZ 08 Cosmonaire, a travel watch shaped by Space Age optimism and a clear design brief. The name itself pairs cosmos and traveler. The result is compact, sculptural and quietly purposeful.

The case leans into soft geometry. A rounded mid-case and an elliptical bezel shift character with the angle of light, giving the profile an aerodynamic calm. It feels like 1960s-1970s industrial design filtered through today’s restraint. Curves, surfaces and proportions do the talking.

Under a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, the dial is built in layers. A subtle bowl draws the eye inward. Applied markers add relief. An engraved ring filled with Super-LumiNova® forms a luminous perimeter after dark. At center, a laser-engraved panier pattern sits beneath glossy lacquer, so light glides and gathers as the wrist turns.

The handset echoes the case language. The GMT hand keeps reference time clear while preserving balance. Nothing shouts, which is the point.

The 39 mm case wears thoughtfully at 46 mm lug to lug and 10.5 mm thick including crystal. Construction is 316L steel with an HV 800 scratch-resistant coating, screw-fixed bracelet pins, a screw-down crown and 10 ATM water resistance. There is a domed sapphire up front, a sapphire screw-down case back behind, a metal bracelet as standard and an optional leather strap. Clasp is butterfly.

Inside is the automatic Sellita SW330-2 Elaboré with Incabloc shock protection. A sensible GMT choice that favors reliability and serviceability over theater.

Variants are six: blue with BGW9 Super-LumiNova®; brown with BGW9; green with BGW9; brown with gold PVD case and bracelet with BGW9; heated Muonionalusta meteorite dial with orange Super-LumiNova® limited to 60 pieces; and an Isotope – Direnzo limited edition with grey dial, white Super-LumiNova® and heat-blued steel hands limited to 40 pieces.

Pricing sits as follows. Standard: CHF 1,200 pre-sale and CHF 1,250 retail. Isotope – Direnzo limited edition: CHF 1,350 pre-sale and CHF 1,400 retail. Meteorite dial limited edition: CHF 1,350 pre-sale and CHF 1,400 retail.

Shipping is straightforward. US orders ship within the United States via a local distributor with no import duties for US customers. Orders for all other countries ship from Switzerland.

This is retro-futurism done with a steady hand. The elliptical architecture gives the familiar GMT format a distinct Direnzo voice, and the layered dial shows care in both concept and execution. Set local, set home, then go. The watch will keep up without drama.
