Grönefeld unveils the 1941 Quadrivium, a new pinnacle that gathers the Horological Brothers’ hallmark ideas into one watch. Built from the ground up, it blends a 7.5-second remontoire, a one-minute flying tourbillon, central jumping seconds, and a power-reserve indicator. Twin concentric barrels linked in series feed this orchestra of mechanisms, earning the affectionate nickname “Grönefeld’s Greatest Hits” among early admirers.
The Quadrivium name nods to classical learning – arithmetic, geometry, music, astronomy – here translated into four mechanical disciplines working in concert. At 6 o’clock, a raised flying tourbillon sets the stage. At 9, an exposed governor turns every 7.5 seconds, making the remontoire’s heartbeat visible. A bold central jumping-seconds hand asserts the passing moments, while the 50-hour power reserve sits at 10. Hours and minutes are displayed at 2. The hacking seconds deliver a smooth tourbillon stop at the 60-second mark.
Grönefeld’s 1941 case language returns, measured and refined: 40.0 mm in diameter, 11.3 mm in height. The dial pairs a finely frosted surface with hand-beveled stainless-steel elements and polished, multi-faceted white-gold markers. Traditional blued steel hands keep the tone restrained. Collectors will be able to choose from five dial base colours to be announced on the brand’s website.
Turn it over and a sapphire exhibition back reveals a movement of 473 components. Architecture and finish are treated as part of the watch’s visual experience, not an afterthought. No need for a loupe – though you will use one anyway.
Two limited editions frame the debut. The Première Edition counts 28 pieces in tantalum for case and buckle. A further 28 pieces are offered in platinum. Pricing is set at €280,000 in tantalum and €310,000 in platinum, excluding taxes. Deliveries of the tantalum Première Edition are slated to begin in 2027.
The 1941 Quadrivium is a distilled statement: four complications made legible and theatrical, yet grounded in the brand’s established design language. It reads as a considered synthesis of past achievements, newly expressed in a single, tightly composed movement.
