Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date Shrinks to 40 mm – The Sport Classic Refined

The Polaris Date returns in a trimmer 40 mm steel case and 12.9 mm profile, keeping the model’s purposeful character while improving daily wear. It reads like good design should feel – precise, calm, and ready for the long haul.

Born of the 1968 Memovox Polaris and revived in 2018, this line has always mixed function with restraint. The new case keeps the collection’s signatures: taut lines, glass-box crystal, narrow bezel, a play of brushed and polished surfaces, and dual crowns.

The off-centre second crown actuates an internal rotating bezel for timing – a nod to the diving ancestry. Water resistance is rated to 20 bar. A blue canvas strap with a double-folding buckle completes the tool-smart brief.

Inside, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s automatic Calibre 899 offers a 70-hour power reserve. Viewed through a sapphire case-back, it reflects the manufacture’s pragmatic approach – mechanical elegance, built under one roof, without fuss.

The dial keeps the Polaris lexicon: concentric-circle architecture, bold Arabic numerals, elongated trapezoid indexes, and skeletonised hands. All indications carry Super-LumiNova® for legibility when daylight gives up.

The blue gradient lacquer dial is the quiet showpiece. After grained and sunray finishing, it receives 7 layers of colored lacquer and 35 layers of translucent lacquer, then a final hand polish – depth you do not need to announce, because it announces itself.

Prices: Germany 10,600 EUR; Austria 10,700 EUR. For those who value proportion over posture, this is the Polaris distilled – less bulk, same intent.
