Armin Strom’s Mirrored Force Resonance Zeitgeist 1665 3N brings its signature resonance architecture into sharper relief by bathing the mainplate and bridges in 3N yellow gold, set against a black vernis laqué poli dial. The contrast is crisp, the intent clear. Classical color, contemporary structure.
The in-house calibre ARF21 employs two independent regulating systems linked by Armin Strom’s patented resonance clutch. The balances synchronise through the physical phenomenon of resonance, engineered to hold on the wrist for improved chronometric stability. It beats at 3.5 Hz, offers 80 hours of power from two barrels, and includes a twin-seconds flyback that resets both seconds hands together. Practical symmetry is a rare treat.
Case and attire are kept restrained: a 43 mm stainless steel case and a dark grey Alcantara strap. Heat-blued stainless steel hands, made and finished in-house, add a deliberate traditional note. The Zeitgeist idea remains intact – imagine what a resonance wristwatch might have looked like centuries ago if watchmakers had today’s understanding.
Finishing is the quiet voice that carries. The 3N-colored mainplate and bridges are matt, allowing hand-bevelled and polished edges to catch the light without shouting. Black-polished screws, perlage, and circular graining complete the vocabulary. Even parts rarely seen are finished by hand. The skeletonised mainplate opens the stage so the resonance mechanism seems almost suspended.
Assembly follows a disciplined rhythm: once to make it work, once to make sure it works exactly as it should. Production is limited to 25 pieces, each case back individually engraved “1 out of 25”. A measured edition for a measured idea. Gold never gets old. Here, it has purpose.
