Ressence Type 10 DN – fluid form, mechanical clarity

Ressence Type 10 DN fluid form, mechanical clarity

Ressence‘s new Type 10 DN asks a simple question and answers it with conviction: if a mechanical watch evolved like a living thing, what shape would it take? The result is a monochrome Dark Night monolith that reads as one continuous object, not a stack of parts.

The idea gestated since 2022, layer by layer, until case, crystal, dial and strap merged into a seamless flow. Oil in the display pulls the dial visually to the top of the sapphire, dissolving boundaries. Ressence’s rotating discs replace hands, so hours, minutes, a second time zone and a 120 second runner glide across a single graphic plane.

Behind the clarity lies deliberate complexity. The Type 10 DN totals 538 components, with 196 inside the oil filled ROCS 10 module. At its core is the in house designed self winding calibre RW 04 with two barrels for a 60 hour reserve, beating at 28,800 vph. All of it serves one purpose: make the mechanics disappear to the eye while preserving their integrity.

The architecture is split into two sealed worlds. The movement lives in air. The ROCS display swims in oil. Magnetic discs sit a whisper apart across a 0.1 mm titanium membrane, transferring motion without a physical shaft. An expansion chamber manages oil volume with temperature, and every oil filled watch is temperature tested before delivery. The runner does double duty as visual heartbeat and shock stabiliser for the magnetic transmission. A color coded indicator within the hour disc shows oil temperature, with green marking the normal range.

Form meets intent in the case and dial. The 41.5 mm Grade 5 titanium case is polished and hard coated, paired to an integrated rubber strap, all in a deep blue that earns the Dark Night name. Double domed sapphire front and back keeps reflections in check, while the case back reveals the RW 04 in a donut shaped vista. Water resistance is 5 ATM via the Ressence Compression Lock System. A fixed bezel constructed from 24 titanium segments echoes the minute track, whose 24 alternating brushed and sandblasted segments catch light in subtle rotation as the wrist moves.

On the wrist, the watch is quietly present. At 82 grams it disappears until you look, then the display snaps into focus. Hours and minutes lead, a second time zone adds utility without clutter, and the runner reassures. It is functional minimalism, not austerity.

Limited to 100 pieces, the Type 10 DN unveiled at Watch Time New York on 16 October at 10am EDT. Availability begins November 2026. Price is CHF 45,000 before taxes. The complexity stays inside. Simplicity is what you experience.
