The Delfin is back. Edox revives its 1961 diver with the Delfin 1961 Automatic Limited Edition, a clean, period-true take that trades noise for nuance.
Edox calls the original Delfin the watch that made it “The Water Champion”. This re-edition keeps the essential grammar of that era – a rounded 41mm case, a crisp dial, and a domed sapphire crystal – while offering modern 200-metre water resistance. It looks composed, made to be worn rather than announced.
Two dial options are offered – black or cream – each delivered with an additional leather strap. Pricing lands at CHF 1’495. Packaging is an exclusive metal box, a modest flourish that suits the brief.
A note on numbers: Edox’s own communication cites two limits. One passage states each reference is limited to 265 pieces; another lists 250 pieces and specifies strap color by dial. Until clarified, consider the edition size “very limited” rather than chase arithmetic.
What matters is intent. The proportions are civil, the dial uncluttered, the crystal properly domed. It reads like a respectful facsimile with just enough present-day backbone to be useful. No theatrics, only the quiet confidence of a design that once worked and still does.
Legends do not need reinvention, only care. Here, Edox has chosen restraint over reinvention, and the result feels honest. A watch to use, not babysit – which is rather the point.
