Venezianico has truly outdone themselves with their latest release, the Arsenale Sumi-e. Limited to just 500 pieces, this watch elegantly marries Venetian artistry with Japanese Zen tradition. It’s more than a timepiece – it’s a bridge between worlds.
At the heart of the Arsenale Sumi-e is its dial, crafted from Japanese Washi paper. This isn’t just paper; it’s a canvas for the ancient art of Sumi-e, a painting technique developed in Zen monasteries. Through a meticulous five-step pad-printing process, the dial becomes a miniature work of art, capturing poetic landscapes in delicate shades of black.
The 40mm stainless steel case is as much a part of the artistry as the dial. With a mix of polished and satin surfaces, it plays with light like a master of ceremonies at a shadow puppet show! And with a thickness of just 9.95mm, including the anti-reflective sapphire crystal, this watch is as sleek as it is sophisticated.
Flip the watch over, and the caseback – water-resistant up to 50 meters – features Japanese characters honoring the Sumi-e technique, surrounded by engravings that evoke ink swirling through water. It’s the kind of detail that makes you want to keep taking off your watch just to admire it!
Inside, the watch ticks away with the precision of a Zen master practicing meditation, thanks to the Miyota 9039 Automatic Caliber. It’s a nod to the Japanese roots of the timepiece’s artistry, ensuring time is kept as delicately as the brushstrokes on its dial.
Finally, there’s the strap – a bold red that adds a splash of passion, just in case you forgot about Venice’s legendary flair for drama. It’s an invitation to step into this silent dialogue between East and West, a way to carry a piece of this cultural tapestry on your wrist.
